Volunteers - Personal Stories

Personal stories from school placements, young people and non-legal volunteers

"My experience at the Scottish Child Law Centre has been an over-whelmingly positive experience as the very strong sense of community created by the friendly workers at the SCLC made me part of the team immediately. This placement has really allowed me to develop my I.T. skills among many others. The workers were even kind enough to arrange for me and another volunteer to spend two intriguing afternoons visiting the High Court and the Scottish Parliament. I enjoyed my time here so much that I came back for a second placement, having carried out this placement last year also! "  - Jo, Boroughmuir High School (2016)

"I have had a great time volunteering at the Scottish Child Law Centre.  Everyone has been very friendly and welcoming.  The permanent staff ensured that all volunteers have a very thorough induction so I never felt out of my depth and they were always very helpful in answering questions.  I learnt a lot during my placement and it was very interesting to find out more about the work of the centre and see how important the legal advice they offer is.  My time volunteering with the SCLC was a wonderful introduction in child law and I think it is a great place to volunteer." - Eva Duncan (2016)

"I have really enjoyed my work placement here at the Scottish Child Law Centre. All the staff and volunteers are friendly and welcoming making it a great working environment. Though I've only been here for a short time it is clear that the Centre helps many people in need of legal advice despite it being a small organisation. I have learnt many things and developed my IT skills further and I am very keen to come back for another placement! I highly recommend the SCLC for anyone looking to volunteer" -Natalka, Boroughmuir High School (2016)

"Volunteering at the Scottish Child Law Centre has been extremely interesting and has given me a valuable insight into the world of Child Law. I have thoroughly enjoyed volunteering at an organisation that, whilst small, is clearly of great help to people in need of free legal advice."  - Abi, George Watson's, Edinburgh (2015)

"Working for the Scottish Child Law Centre has been a very enjoyable experience for me, as I've met some very friendly people, such as the volunteers and the workers themselves who work here primarily. The staff made me feel very comfortable and I have no trouble asking for help or assistance from anyone as it is such a nice friendly environment. I highly recommend this placement to anyone interested in volunteering here."  Logan, Gracemount High School, Edinburgh (2014)
