Local Law Student Volunteers

Local Law Student Volunteers

The Scottish Child Law Centre runs a successful local law student volunteer programme with term time and vacation time places. Local law student volunteers are usually law students who study law in Edinburgh during term time or who live in or around Edinburgh during vacation time and who are looking for a deeper and more practical understanding of Scots law as it relates to children.

  • Local law student volunteering places usually last for a minimum period of one University term or one vacation period but can be longer by agreement.
  • Generally speaking they consist of one three hour shift per week either in the morning or in the afternoon following normal office hours.
  • All volunteering places are unpaid voluntary positions and no expenses are paid.
  • Applications are accepted at any-time throughout the year but there are a maximum of 10 spaces available.
  • Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis, but a reserve list of up to 20 will be kept to cover any vacancies as they arise.
  • Places are very desirable and frequently oversubscribed.
  • Local law student volunteer duties will consist mainly of general administration duties, reception duties, research project support and organisation of and participation in fundraising events.
  • Generally speaking, there will be no direct contact with clients or representation work.

To apply please complete the Application Form 2016-17 and submit your application and supporting documents accordingly.
