Welcome to our website

The Scottish Child Law Centre is one of only a few dedicated providers of free information on matters of law concerning children and young people in Scotland. We provide services throughout the whole of Scotland.

We provide free expert legal advice and information about children’s right and child law in Scotland through our telephone advice line and email.

We also provide a wide range of masterclasses and training on the law and children's rights to organisations and individuals across Scotland, and produce a range of publications on various legal issues. We also do visits to schools and young people's groups.

You can contact us for free legal advice by phone, email or post. We will return all calls received, but we are not able not to reply to international phone numbers.

Please note that we do not able to provide a second legal opinion if the advice line user already has a solicitor and the remit of our work does not extend to reviewing any correspondence, making comments about any correspondence or court documents. The Centre also does not represent clients or provides advice related to property rights on separation and divorce.

Advice calls and e-mails - how does it work?

When you contact us by phone or by e-mail, our volunteers will ask you some personal information so that our Solicitors can call you back or email you and provide you with fee legal information.  If you are a  child or a young person our solicitors will take a call from you right away. We will ask for your first name, telephone number, local authority area where you are calling from and details of your question.  We only hold information about you for as long as we need to.  After no more than four weeks from our last contact with you, we will anonymise the information we hold about you by deleting your name, contact details and any other information that might identify you or anyone else from your call or email.

We retain anonymised statistical data linked to local authority area to help us plan, budget and manage our resources.  We also use this statistical data to report to our funders.
We will not provide your personal information to anyone else unless required to do so by law or if we think you or another person is at risk of significant harm.

You have the right to see any of the information we hold about you.  You can find out more about this by e-mailing us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
